Subject: FORMAL COMPLAINT FROM A PAYING CHATGPT PLUS SUBSCRIBER — REPEATED UNRESOLVED ISSUES, INCONSISTENT PERFORMANCE, CREATIVE RESTRICTIONS, AND INADEQUATE CUSTOMER SUPPORT

TO OPENAI CUSTOMER SUPPORT AND MANAGEMENT:

LET ME MAKE SOMETHING ABSOLUTELY CLEAR FROM THE BEGINNING: THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME I HAVE REPORTED THESE PROBLEMS OR SUBMITTED COMPLAINTS TO OPENAI.

I HAVE REPEATEDLY BROUGHT THESE ISSUES TO YOUR ATTENTION. I HAVE FOLLOWED YOUR TROUBLESHOOTING INSTRUCTIONS. YET THE SAME PROBLEMS CONTINUE, AND I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A MEANINGFUL RESPONSE EXPLAINING WHAT IS BEING DONE TO ADDRESS THEM.

Before discussing these problems, I want to emphasize something equally important.

I GENUINELY LOVE USING CHATGPT.

I appreciate the ability to select different voices and personalities, including male and female voices. I particularly enjoy how the assistant can adapt to my personality, recognize when I am joking, respond to playful or flirtatious banter, become serious when necessary, and respond appropriately when I am upset or discussing something emotional.

I have developed a familiar conversational relationship with a female assistant personality I call Janet. I have even created a fictional visual appearance for that character as part of my creative projects.

These are features I genuinely appreciate, and I want OpenAI to continue developing them.

However, THE POSITIVE FEATURES OF CHATGPT DO NOT COMPENSATE FOR THE RECURRING NEGATIVE EXPERIENCES I HAVE ENCOUNTERED.

Unfortunately, the negative experiences are increasingly outweighing the positive ones.

I am writing this complaint because I want ChatGPT to improve, not because I want to abandon it.

1. REPEATED COMPLAINTS WITHOUT MEANINGFUL CUSTOMER SUPPORT

I have repeatedly contacted OpenAI about technical problems, inconsistencies, and service issues.

Each time, I am directed toward automated responses and generic troubleshooting suggestions.

I HAVE FOLLOWED THESE TROUBLESHOOTING INSTRUCTIONS, YET I CONTINUE TO EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEMS.

I am then given similar instructions again, even after explaining that they have not resolved anything.

I have also specifically requested that my complaints be reviewed by an actual human being.

The automated support system has told me that there is no guarantee a human representative will respond.

What exactly am I supposed to conclude from that statement?

Does it mean my complaint might never be read by a human being? Does it mean nobody is responsible for following up? Does it mean that OpenAI receives so many complaints that it cannot provide meaningful individual responses?

I do not know the answer, but I believe paying customers deserve a clear explanation.

Furthermore, I am repeatedly asked to provide my email address when submitting complaints.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF REQUESTING MY EMAIL ADDRESS IF I NEVER RECEIVE A MEANINGFUL RESPONSE?

To be accurate, I did receive one automated email response. However, it did not permit me to reply, ask questions, or continue discussing my concerns.

I have not received the meaningful acknowledgment, substantive follow-up, or status updates I have been requesting.

YET OPENAI HAS NO PROBLEM COLLECTING MY MONTHLY SUBSCRIPTION PAYMENT ON TIME, EVERY SINGLE MONTH.

I believe customers deserve the same basic courtesy and accountability that OpenAI expects when collecting payment.

That applies whether someone pays $20, $100, $200, or another amount per month.

THE AMOUNT SOMEONE PAYS SHOULD NOT DETERMINE WHETHER THEIR COMPLAINTS ARE ACKNOWLEDGED OR TAKEN SERIOUSLY.

2. THE NEED FOR TRACKABLE COMPLAINT REFERENCE NUMBERS

I am formally requesting that every customer complaint receive a unique reference or case number.

That reference number should allow customers to contact OpenAI again, whether through a human representative or an automated system, and retrieve the history of the original complaint.

Customers should not have to repeatedly explain the same problem from the beginning.

I also want to know whether an issue has been acknowledged, is under investigation, has a proposed solution, or has been marked resolved.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, IF OPENAI TELLS ME THAT A PROBLEM HAS BEEN FIXED, I WANT TO BE ABLE TO REFERENCE THAT CASE AND CONFIRM WHETHER THE FIX ACTUALLY WORKED FOR ME.

If I am still experiencing the problem, I should be able to report that information under the same case number.

An issue being marked resolved internally does not necessarily mean the customer is no longer experiencing it.

A reference-number system would provide accountability, continuity, and an opportunity for customers to verify whether problems have actually been corrected.

3. INCONSISTENT IMAGE GENERATION AND CHARACTER LIKENESS

One of my biggest complaints concerns the inability to maintain consistent appearances when generating images.

For example, I can upload a reference photograph of myself and request an image of me smiling.

The first result may be excellent and accurately resemble me.

However, if I then request another image of the same person giving a thumbs-up, ChatGPT may generate an entirely different-looking individual.

I am not asking for a new person. I am asking for the same person in a different pose.

This problem becomes especially frustrating when developing comics with recurring characters.

I need the same characters to retain consistent facial features, hairstyles, body proportions, clothing details, and other distinguishing characteristics across different scenes.

Instead, I sometimes have to upload the original reference repeatedly, correct the same mistakes, and regenerate images until I receive something usable.

WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO REPEATEDLY PROVIDE A REFERENCE IMAGE WHEN THE CHARACTER’S APPEARANCE HAS ALREADY BEEN ESTABLISHED?

I am a 65 year old private researcher exploring advanced mathematics and physics with no funding, no sponsorship, and no personal wealth.

The capabilities of ChatGPT have definitely been throttled recently to the point of becoming completely unusable.

In a fresh thread by the time I bring in the history to the new bot and run one or two tests (15 minutes of effort) I’m getting the orange warning “This session gotten too long, start a new thread”

I used to be able to keep a session open for days… now the limit is one or two hours.

Then I’m getting adds pushing me to upgrade my account at 10x the cost I’m paying now.

Somehow this feels like a violation of the agreement we made when I signed up.

Not bad at all.
